INEC reschedules elections in Kwaren, Shinkafi, Kurya wards in Zamfara

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Zamfara has postponed the governorship and state Assembly elections in two wards in Shinkafi local government area of the state.

This was made known by the INEC Director Voter Education and Publicity in Zamfara Garba Galadima while fielding questions from newsmen in Gusau on Sunday.

According to him: “the elections have been rescheduled to hold today in Kwaren Shinkafi and Kurya wards respectively.”

He said Kwaren Shinkafi ward has10 polling units and Kurya ward has 9 polling units.

Galadima further attributed insecurity in the two wards as major factors that hindered the commission from conducting elections as scheduled on Saturday.

“Security agents advised against holding the elections on Saturday march 9th, alternatively we rescheduled the election to Sunday march 10 so as to mobilise all Security agents to the affected areas,” he said.

He also stated that in all the remaining 145 wards across the 14 local government councils, elections were conducted peacefully.

“As I am talking to you now, the official collation of results will commence in the next few hours of today”. Galadima added.
