Happening now: Service Chiefs yield, appear before Reps

The Service Chiefs, Tuesday, are finally appearing before the House of Representatives to brief the lawmakers on the security sector.

The lawmakers were last week left fuming after the military heads and the Inspector General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun sent representatives to appear before them.

The lawmakers did not allow the representatives of the security heads to make presentations during the session, while insisting that “no representative by proxy would be allowed.”

At the commencement of plenary on Tuesday, Speaker Tajudeen Abbas stated again that the House won’t allow proxies.

He said the service chiefs will brief the House and will answer questions from the lawmakers.

The House subsequently allowed the Chief of Defence Staff, Christopher Musa, the Chief of Army Staff, Taoreed Lagbaja, the Chief of Naval Staff, Emmanuel Ogalla, the Chief of Air Staff, Hassan Abubakar and the IGP to enter the chamber.

The security heads are taking turns to address the House on their activities.
