Gunmen kill business woman, 2 cousins in Igboora

A business woman and two cousins were on Saturday, January 2, killed by suspected kidnappers in Igboora town, Ibarapa North local government area of Oyo state.

The business woman was identified as Mrs. Sherifat Adisa, Chief Executive Officer of Subawah filling station in the town.

An eye witness account said the suspected kidnappers stormed the filling station along Idere road in Igboora at about 7.20pm, shooting sporadically and forcing residents in the area to scamper for safety into the nearby area.

According to the eye witness, it was during the sporadic shootings that the kidnappers abducted the business woman into an unknown destination.

It was gathered that a motorcyclist conveying the two cousins with their mother from Idere to Igboora, rammed into the scene during the sporadic shootings and sensing dangers ahead, he dropped the three passengers by the roadside to escape from the scene of shooting.

The witness stressed that it was at this juncture that stray bullets from the kidnappers reportedly hit and killed the two cousins on the spot while their other also hit by the stray bullet survived and was rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment.

It was learnt that the corpse of the abducted chief executive officer of the filling station was found on Sunday morning along a bush path in the town.

Confirming the report, Oyo state police command Police Public Relations Officer, SP Lawrence Fadeyi , disclosed that as at present, some suspects were in police net in connection with the incident while investigations were ongoing.

“The attention of the Commissioner of Police, Oyo State Command, Joe Nwachukwu Enwonwu, has been drawn to the two incidents that happened at Idere in Ibarapa Central Local Government Area where a business woman and two 9-year-old cousins were killed by unknown gunmen,” he said.

SP Fadeyi added that “the CP wishes to state that in the incident of murder at Idere where three persons were killed, some suspects have been arrested through collaborative efforts of the police and other local security and that investigation has commenced and the outcome will be made public in due time.”
