Gunmen abduct 7 in Kwara, police rescue 2  

Gunmen on Friday abducted seven travellers at Eleyin village via Isanlu-Isin in Isin local government area of Kwara state, bringing to 14, the number of persons abducted in the Kwara South axis of the state within two weeks.

It was reported that about five armed men blocked the highway, stopping two private vehicles and forcefully taking all occupants to an unknown location.

Blueprint reports that gunmen had on Sunday, April 19, abducted seven travellers along Obbo-Ayegunle/Osi Road in Ekiti local government area of the state.

The victims were said to be travelling from Abuja to Offa and other parts of the state when they were abducted.

Confirming the latest incident in a statement, weekend, the Kwara state police command said the incident was reported at about 5:45pm Friday.

The Police Public Relations Officer, Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, who confirmed the abduction said upon receiving the report, “the command, in collaboration with the military and vigilantes, launched a swift operation, leading to the successful rescue of two victims, Ganiyu Ajayi and Kolawole Adeyemi,” adding that “efforts are ongoing to rescue the remaining five victims and apprehend the perpetrators.”

The command said it has intensified security measures across the area, “including aggressive bush combing, strategic patrols, and intelligence-driven operations to prevent further occurrences.

“We assure the public that robust strategies are in place to tackle criminal activities and safeguard lives and property across the state,” he said.
