Grant access to Emefiele’s lawyers, family members, Court orders DSS

A High Court sitting in Abuja has ordered the Department of State Services (DSS) and its Director General to immediately grant unrestricted access to the lawyers and family members of the former Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Governor, Mr. Godwin Emefiele, to see him as it is within his constitutional right.

Justice Hamza Muazu of the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory, sitting at Maitama Abuja, gave this order on Friday.

This came upon an application by counsel to Mr. Godwin Emefiele, J.B. Daudu SAN.

He informed the court that he has written letters to the DSS, particularly on June 14, 2023, for the purpose of taking further instruction from him, but the DSS has refused to respond to the application.

On the other hand, counsel to the 2nd and 3rd Respondents I. Awo, Esq informed the court that the DSS does not have the penchant for refusing such a request and that it is wrong to do so.

However, he is certain the Security Service would abide by the Order of Court and grant access to the listed lawyers and family members of Mr. Emefiele to see him, while counsel to the Office of the Attorney-General of the Federation did not oppose the application.

In another development, counsel to the DSS as well as the Office of the AGF request for extension of time to file their respective responses to the Originating Motion, which was granted and the suit was further adjourned till Tuesday 19th June, 2023 for hearing of the substantive suit.
