Get world class coach for Super Eagles, football chieftain tells NFF

As search for a sustainable coach for the senior national football team, the Super Eagles continues, a former Vice Chairman of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Chief Gabriel Chukwuma has suggested a way out.

Chukwuma, who is the proprietor of the once formidable Gabros Football Club of Nnewi said the NFF has no other option than to engage a world class coach for the Super Eagles.

According to him, ” Nigeria has passed the level of engaging minnows for the team. With array of talents scattered all over the world, playing good football in big leagues of the world, the only option is to engage a world class coach that is capable of solving our football problems.”

” I know it is going to cost big money. But we don’t have to look at the money before we engage him because what we should be looking for is the best. We really need the best. In fact, Nigeria should be among the best in the world. The coach must be a tested coach in other football clubs or national teams and must be reliable before he is engaged.

” When engaged, he will have the capacity to harness all our talents and know the right wings they should play and be able to give us our first eleven within one year. He will be able to produce a good defence, attack and formidable midfield that would support the attack to produce the much-needed goals.”

Chukwuma who regretted the recent poor runs of the  Golden Eaglets and Flying Eagles in international competitions, said the success of these teams  would have sustained the talents’ supply to the senior team  and cautioned the NFF against engaging a local coach for the team.

According to him, a local coach will worsen the situation, because he will bring in sentiments, collect money from his preferred players and feature only them. Again, he will not have the psychological advantage to deal with the big players and this will result in poor runs.’ Chukwuma concluded.
