Fortune dwindles as equity market sheds N2bn

Trading activities on the floor of Nigerian Stock Exchange Thursday declined marginally by N2 billion, after hitting historic peak of N20 trillion mark the previous day.

Market capitalisation of listed equities declined marginally by 0.01 per cent to N20.279 trillion from N20.281 trillion reported on Wednesday.

The NSE All Share Index also depreciated by 3.73 basis points to 38,800.01 points from 38803.74 points recorded the previous day.

Investors traded 389.724 million shares valued at N7.965 billion in 2925 deals against 1.497 billion shares worth N18.748 billion exchanged hands the previous day in 4316 deals.

Capital market analysts said that the growth trend recorded in the market since the begining of the week was because there have been positive sentiments for value, growth anf highly capitalised stocks. They also said that investors used the opportunity to reposition for year end seasonal trend.

An analysis of the transactions showed that Cap Plc led gainers table during the day, gaining N1.45 kobo to close at N20.50 kobo, Flour Mills Nigeria Plc followed with a gain of N1.35 kobo to close at N27.95 kobo, Oando Plc gained N0.29 kobo to close at N3.64 kobo, Sky Ways Aviation gained N0.27 kobo to close at N3.20 kobo while Africa Prudential Registrar added N0.13 kobo to close at N6.25 kobo.

On the contrary, Wapco topped losers chart, dropping by N1.05 kobo to close at N21.00, Guaranty Trust Bank trailed with a loss of N0.20 kobo to close at N32.60 kobo, Champion Breweries down by N0.07 kobo to close at N0.82 kobo, United Bank for Africa dropped by N0.05 kobo to close at N8.45 kobo. may and Baker fell by N0.05 kobo to close at N3.70 kobo.

The result further showed that Zenith Bank was the most active stock during the day, trading 84.434 million shares valued at N2.129 billion, Guaranty Trust Bank followed with account of 59.180 million shares worth N1.941 billion, Flour Mills Nigeria Plc traded 56.161 million shares cost N1.571 billion, Wapco sold a total of 26.074 million shares valued at N556.887 million, Lasaco traded 22.987 million shares cost N7.286 million.
