FG to review corps members’ allowance – DG

The federal government will likely jerk up the monthly allowances of corps members during their service year, provided the report of committee on the review of workers’ salaries and wages is adopted and approved.
This was disclosed by the Director General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Brig.-Gen Suleiman Zakari Kazaure, while responding to questions from newsmen in Dutse, Jigawa state yesterday during his visit to the Yakubu Gown NYSC permanent orientation camp.
He said if the workers’ salary is increased with 10 per cent, NYSC will jerk up the corps members’ stipend with 11 per cent, citing the example of when N18, 000.00 was approved as the national minimum wage, where the corps members’ allowance was increased to N19, 000.00. He advised the corps members to embrace the entrepreneurship development so that they will learn skills and trades so that they could be self employed.
The DG said he embarked on tour of NYSC camps across the country to assess their conditions, especially the feeding system, hostel situation, medical facilities and electricity among others. Kazaure expressed satisfaction and happiness on the condition of Jigawa NYSC permanent orientation camp, especially the aesthetic decency, water supply, balanced diet, electricity supply and decent accommodation in the camp
