FG hints on when Funtua dry port will be ready

The Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Gboyega Oyetola, on Wednesday, disclosed that the Funtua Dry Inland Port was nearing completion, with a scheduled readiness for 2024.

Oyetola said this on Wednesday at a retreat held in Lagos to evaluate its performance against the Key Performance Indicators outlined by the Federal Government.

According to a statement signed by the Director, Public Relations of the Ministry, Olujumi Oyetomi, the retreat focused on aligning with the President’s directives on targets and goals, marked a pivotal step in ensuring the ministry meets its mandate and functions effectively.

He challenged participants to ensure the project’s timely completion and expressed confidence in the ability of the ministry to deliver on its KPIs.

“As you are aware, Mr. President, in the just concluded presidential retreat, signed a performance bond with the cabinet ministers and permanent secretaries.

“I am convinced we have what it takes to deliver on our KPIs. We are, therefore, gathered here to brainstorm on how to deliver on the KPIs. For instance, three months ago, I was told that the Funtua Inland Dry Port was at an 80 per cent completion stage.

“Considering that we are expected to deliver this particular project in the first quarter of next year, it would be interesting to hear from the Nigerian Shippers Council how this can be achieved in record time,” the minister said.

Emphasising the importance of tangible results, Oyetola urged participants to contribute their ideas and efforts to achieve the set KPIs, underscoring President Bola Tinubu’s determination to deliver visible dividends of democracy to Nigerians.

He also commended the potential of the maritime sector in contributing to economic growth, diversifying revenue sources, and creating extensive employment opportunities for Nigerians.

“Distinguished Ladies and Gentlemen, Mr. President wants to see tangible results and our shared responsibility to serve the people.

“The maritime sector stands as a reservoir of immense potential, not only for economic growth but also for diversifying our revenue source and generating abundant employment opportunities for Nigerians,” he said.

Also Speaking at the retreat, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Transportation, Marine and Blue Economy, Magdalene Anjani, reiterated the significance of the retreat in providing a platform for senior management officials to exchange ideas on meeting the ministry’s goals.

She stressed that “the Minister has signed a performance bond with Mr. President, which will serve as a scorecard for the ministry.

“This bond comes with its initiatives, deliverables, Key Performance Indicators, timelines, and target, which the sector must unconditionally achieve.”
