FG hinges economic growth on strategic planning

Federal Government has reiterated the importance of strategic planning in Nigeria, describing it as a tool for economic development and critical for inclusive growth.

This was made known by the Secretary to the National Planning Commission, Ntufam Fidelis Ugbo, at the opening of the 2014 Meetings of  Joint Planning Board (JPB) and National Council on Development Planning (NCDP), in Bauchi.
The 2014 meetings of the JPB and NCDP, has the theme “National Strategic Planning for Inclusive Growth and Sustainable Development: Fostering Job Creation and Equity.”

Ugbo the country needs Sectoral Strategic Planning (SSP), citing the Agricultural  and telecommunications sectors in Nigeria as sectors that had involved strategic planning leading to success and multiplier effects generating jobs for Nigerians regardless of educational status.
” As part of effort to improve strategic planning and transformation process, the Government transformation agenda has been developed. This is a road map of the key policies, programmes and projects to be implemented by the Jonathan Administration in 2011 – 2015,” said.

He also explained that the purpose of the JPB meeting was to review the extent of implementation of key recommendations arising from the 2013 Uyo meeting and to provide an avenue for interaction and cross fertilisation of ideas among the participants for enhanced strategic planning.

The technical level presentations for the JPB were the strategic planning as a framework for fostering inclusive growth and job creation and the role of real sector in job and creation.
Others are social protection policy as a panacea for addressing vulnerability and insecurity and relevance of data, M& E and capacity building to job creation and inclusive growth.
