FCT Badminton targets laurels

—   Abdullahi, Majemite, Anafulu emerge sports chairmen-elect

Fresh from the election conducted for 20 sports associations in the nation’s capital, Abuja, FCT Badminton Association have begun plans to reach out to the six council areas of the territory as part of effort geared towards discovering talents from the grassroots who will do the territory proud very soon.
FCT director of sports, Alhaji Musa Alim stressed that no stone should be left unturned in making sure that burden talent are discovered to bring honours to the FCT.

Among the sports associations charged with carrying out this responsibility include; athletics, badminton, basketball, boxing, chess, cricket, golf, gymnastics, handball, hockey, judo, karate, kick -boxing and scrabble.
Others are; table tennis, taekwondo, tennis, volleyball, weight -Lifting, wrestling and football.
Chairman-elect of FCT badminton association, Mr Gabriel Gbayan informed Blueprint sports that his administration would take strategic steps towards achieving its mandate.

According to the former badminton player “What we are planning to do right now is to do a grassroot mobilization, we don’t want game of badminton to be for only elite, that is our main agenda for the game in FCT
“I will soon meet with my board members and we are going to roll out a very comprehensive programme for badminton in FCT.
In athletics, president of Nigeria Traditional Sports Federation, Alhaji Abdullahi Mohammed emerged as chairman-elect while an executive board member of Nigeria Taekwando Federation, Mr Anthony Anafulu was elected as FCT Taekwondo association chairman just as Prince Majemite was unanimously declared chairman of FCT Scrabble association.
