Fayemi inaugurates Ekiti state NYSC governing board

Ekiti state governor, Kayode Fayemi, has on Monday, inaugurated the state governing board of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC).

While inaugurating the board in Ado-Ekiti, the state capital, the governor charged the new board members to give priority to the welfare of corps members and the success of the scheme in general.

Fayemi was represented at the occasion by the state Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Mr Michael Awopetu.

According to statement from the office of the Director-General of NYSC, Brig-General Shuaibu Ibrahim to Blueprint on Monday, Awopetu is to serves as the chairman of the board while his Investment, Trade and Industry counterpart, Mr Muyiwa Olumilua, and Dr Olabode Adetoyi of Agriculture and Food Security will serve as members.

Other members of the board are representatives of the state Commissioner of Police, DCP Polycarp Kpai; Nigerian Army, Lt. Ahmed Musa; Mrs Adebimpe Ayodele and the State Coordinator of NYSC, Mrs Mary Chikezie, will serve as the board secretary.

The board chair, Awopetu, has promised to inaugurate the board committees across the 16 local government areas of the state in no distant time.

“On behalf of the state government, we appreciate the management of the NYSC on the choice of Ekiti for the siting of the NYSC garment factory in the southwest region,” he said.

The Commissioner for Agriculture and Food Security, Dr Adetoyi, pointed out that there were a lot of opportunities for Ekiti youths in the agricultural sector, therefore, enjoined the state coordinator of NYSC to sensitise corps members on the need for skill acquisition, especially in agro-based businesses.

Also, the representatives of the Nigeria Police Force and the Nigerian Army on the board, have both pledged their support to ensure the security of life and property of corps members.

In her speech, the state NYSC coordinator, Mrs Chikezie, on behalf of the Director-General of the scheme, thanked the board members for their promise to help the scheme realise its mandate.
