Europa Conference League triumph: Moyes hands medal to father

Manager David Moyes handed his medal to his 87-year-old father after West Ham’s Europa Conference League triumph.

The Hammers won their first European trophy in 47 years with a dramatic 2-1 victory over Fiorentina on Wednesday night.

Jarrod Bowen struck in the 90th minute after Said Benrahma’s penalty was cancelled out by Giacomo Bonaventura.

It sparked wild scenes of celebration among Moyes and his men, who were fighting relegation for much of the Premier League season.

Amongst the bedlam, the Scot was seen sharing a touching moment with his father.

Moyes handed over his winners’ medal to David Snr, who has been on every step of West Ham’s European tour.

When asked about the gesture, Moyes told BT Sport: “It’s a great moment to have your family at the game. These moments don’t come around too often, you have to work very hard.

“From when you’re a young boy, they always want to support you. And you don’t get enough good moments sometimes in football.

“But today is a great moment.”

Moyes added in his post-match press conference: “He was the first one, I thought I should get it round his neck.

“He’s watched a lot over the years and I hope he enjoyed it.”
