EU, AFRYDEV support survivors of GBV in Yobe

As part of the sustainability exit strategy and action plan, the African Youths for Peace Development and Empowerment Foundation (AFRDEV) has volunteered to formally register the survivor’s group in Yobe state as agreed by the survivors and name the movement “Survivors Network.”

The executive director of AFRDEV, Maryam Aje, made this known during the women mentorship summit in Damaturu, Thursday.

She said the group is saddled with the mandate of ensuring that all survivors have a voice and a proper channel through which they can communicate with existing government structures both at the state and local level for further support by Gender-Based Violence (GBV) best practices and perspectives that improve positive social norms towards ending violence against women and girls.

She stated that the AFRDEV implemented the activities with the support from International Alert under EU Consortium project “Support from Early Recovery from Conflict and Resilient Building” in Yobe state.

The AFRDEV director further stated that Survivors Network if created, will bring together selected survivors from the three LGAs of Damaturu,Gujba and Potiskum.

The AFRDEV coordinator said this will assist in establishing linkages, relationship with state key stakeholders (women mentors) for sharing learned knowledge and experience for the purpose of improving access to chains of leadership and building positive self-esteem among SGBV survivors of Boko Haram.
