Eto’o goes back to school

Samuel Eto’o has proved he doesn’t just have an educated left foot … by landing a place at Harvest.

The former Chelsea and Everton striker will study business management next year at America’s foremost university.

Eto’o, 38, has just launched a gambling firm – Beto’o – in his home country Cameroon.

The ex-Barcelona and Inter Milan star now hopes his studies will help the company survive.

Eto’o announced his playing retirement in September following a spell with Qatar SC.

He told Jeune Afrique magazine: “When you are a footballer you pay others to look after your business interests.

“But once it is down to you to manage them, and you want them to grow, you need to acquire new skills.

“So I will resume my studies, to learn business management.

“I will go to Harvard University in January. They have been good enough to let me take a specialised course.

“I will be in Boston for almost a year.  It won’t be easy, but it will open new doors to me.

“My betting company belongs to a group of young African people who asked me to join them.

“I agreed to let them use my image following months of talks, as I was touched by their faith in Africa.

“They convinced me that together we can improve people’s daily lives.”

Eto’o’s previous business venture, a telecoms firm named Set’Mobile, swiftly went bust after being set up in 2012.

The three-time Champions League winner joined Chelsea from Russians Anzhi in 2013.

He made 35 Blues appearances, scoring 12 goals, before leaving for Everton the following summer.

The 118-cap Cameroon international struck four times in 20 Toffees appearances, moving on to Sampdoria in January 2015.
