Ethno-political groups donate relief materials to IDPs in Borno

Governor Kashim Shettima of Borno state has called on all the ethnic groups living in Borno from other states to remain steadfast and continue to go about their normal businesses in the state without any fear.
He also assured them that his government would continue to support them and create an enabling environment for them to stay in Borno and live a normal life.
The governor stated this yesterday while receiving relief materials from 11 different ethnic groups that are non indigenes of the state for onward distribution to the Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) from the nine local government areas badly affected by the insurgency.

He said: “As far I am concerned I regard you people as the indigenes of Borno far better than those Borno politicians that have relocated to Abuja, abandoned their people and don’t show any concern or sympathy to the plight of the people. Park all their belongings including their costs and chickens to Abuja and only come to Maiduguri whenever they want votes.
“They are not bordered about their people and only come around to cause trouble. To me, all the ethnic groups in the state are our brothers’ band sisters. They are here with us and have not gone anywhere like those in Abuja. They are always here with us. So, we regard more than those in Abuja. We don’t need them here. They can go and contest election in Abuja. We are here together with our people to salvage it together.”

Responding, the groups individually said their gestures were to complement the state government t in alleviating the sufferings of the IDPs, share the plight and feelings of the IDPs and stop at nothing to ensure Governor Kashim Shettima returns to his office in 2015.
