Equity market sheds N29bn

Trading activities on the floor of Nigerian Stock Exchange yesterday opened week in downward trend, shedding N29 billion. Specifically, Market  capitalisation of listed equities declined by 0.22 per cent  to N12.846 trillion from N12.875 trillion reported the previous day.

The Nigeria Stock Exchange All Share Index also depreciated by 58.54 basis points  to 26390.08 points from 26448.62  points traded on Friday.

Investors traded 245.852 million shares worth N1.361 billion in 2514 deals against 310.560 million shares valued at N4.998 billion in 2725 deals.

A review of transactions during the day showed that May and Baker Nigeria Plc led gainers table during the day, gaining N0.19 kobo to close at N2.19 kobo, Ecobank Transnational Incorporated (ETI) followed with a gain of N7.10 kobo, Trans Express gained N0.07 kobo to close at N0.84 kobo, Law Union and Rock Insurance Company added N0.04 kobo to close at N0.51 kobo, Cornerstone Insurance increased by N0.03 kobo to close at N0.35 kobo.

Dangote Cement Industry Plc, on the contrary, recorded the highest loss during the day, shedding N1.00 to close at N144.00, Zenith Bank Plc trailed with a loss of N0.25 kobo to close at N17.20 kobo, NEM Insurance fell by N0.22 kobo to close at N2.08 kobo, Access Bank Plc down by N0.05 kobo to close at N7.30 kobo and United Bank for Africa down by N0.05 kobo to close at N5.70 kobo.
