Eject illegal occupants of Ajaokuta quarters, activist tells FG

Human Rights Activist, Chief Haruna Ahmed Osike, has called on the minister of Mines and Steel Development, Olamilekan Adegbite, to as a matter of urgency order the removal of Ajaokuta steel company workers  who have retired but are still occupying staff quarters.

Osike made the call in Lokoja Sunday while speaking on the effort of President Muhammadu Buhari to revamp the steel industry, lamented that virtually all the former management staff of the company who have retired for many years still occupied the staff quarters at the detriment of other workers who are entitled to the accommodation.

“It is disheartening and worrisome that some management staff and even senior staff of Ajaokuta steel company who have retired are still resident in the quarters which posed a lot of security threat to the company especially now that the Russians are about to come  to Nigeria for the resuscitation of the steel plant.

“It is obvious that many of them are sabotaging the effort of the present administration of the company and since they have retired, it is better for them to vacate the quarters because they are no longer staff of the company,” he said.

While urging the federal government, the minister of mines and steel development, and the sole administrator of Ajaokuta Steel Company,  Ismaila Aka’aba, to take a proactive measure  in ejecting those that are still occupying senior staff quarters illegally, Chief Osike advised that any retired management of the company who are not engineers should not be engaged on contract basis , saying they don’t have anything to contribute to the success of the company.
