Easter: Pray for Nigeria, be strong; Gbajabiamila, Wase urge Christians

Speaker of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila and his deputy, Idris Wase congratulated Nigerian Christians for marking this year’s Easter, urging them to pray for the country, and remain strong.

Gbajabiamila in a message issued by his spokesman, Mr. Lanre Lasisi, said the Easter period is a time for sober reflection, urging Christian faithful to use the period to pray for Nigeria and the world at large, especially at this time of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Speaker further urged all Nigerians to be their brother’s keeper at this time of national challenge, saying with brotherliness, the country would continue to be one.

“I believe this is one period that requires us all as patriots to dwell much in prayers for our nation to come out of its current challenges.

“I call on all Nigerians, especially Christians, to as a matter of responsibility pray fervently at this time for God to bring an end to the COVID-19 pandemic that is ravaging the world,” the Speaker said.

Similarly, Wase in a message by his Chief Press Secretary, Umar Puma, charged Nigerians to remain strong and resilient in spite of the prevailing global COVID-19 pandemic.

“I wish to sincerely congratulate the Christian faithful on the feast of Easter. It is my candid prayer that despite the current challenges, God will gift you a peaceful and solemn celebration.

“It is unfortunate most of you may not be able to visit your loved ones because of the lockdown. But take this as the sacrifice we all have to make to conquer the coronavirus.

“I urge you not to despair, but to be strong  by making sacrifices for our families, neighbours and the society at large, in order to overcome the present difficult condition,” he said.
