DPR shuts 12 filling stations in Sokoto, Kebbi

The Department of Petroleum Resources (DPR) has said it has sealed 12 filling stations in Sokoto and Kebbi states in the last one week.

Zonal operations controller in charge of Sokoto and Kebbi states, Alhaji Mohammed Makera, stated in Sokoto weekend that the filling stations were sealed for under dispensing of the product to unsuspecting members of the public while others were operating without valid documents.

“In the course of our routine monthly surveillance to the filling stations in Sokoto and Kebbi states between Tuesday and Thursday last week, 12 filling stations were sealed for different offences,” he said.

He stated further that seven were sealed for operating without license and contravening safety rules while five  were sealed for under dispensing offence.

He said the sealed filling stations would remain sealed until they meet the stipulated conditions.

He stated that during the unscheduled visits, the department was able to visit 99 filling stations both in Sokoto and Kebbi states.

Makera warned marketers against sharp practices and gave assurance his department would not relent in its efforts to ensure the customers got what they paid for

He was furious that most of the stations’ managers feigned ignorance of the regulations of the department and warned that his department would not spare any station violating the rules.

Makera called on consumers to report any suspicious or sharp practice noticed in any filling station to the department for necessary action.
