Don’t take all IMF policy advice, Osun monarch warns FG

A traditional ruler in Osun state, the Olowu of Kuta, Oba Hameed Oyelude Makama, has warned the federal government against taking every advice of the International Monetary Fund (IMF).

The monarch, who also expressed worry over the resurgence of banditry, commended President Bola Tinubu, for his resolve not to pay for ransom.

Speaking with journalists during a visit to his palace in Kuta, on Friday, the monarch called on the federal government to train and equip the police for optimal performance.

He said, “The administration meant well for removing the fuel subsidy. The gain of subsidy removal is coming. It may not be immediate. I want to advise the federal government not to completely take advice on the policy of the IMF. Noting wrong in domesticating policy to suit our nature.”

On the recent attack on traditional rulers, the monarch lamented that politicians have destroyed traditional institutions while some kings have also failed to stay with the culture and traditions of their land thus subjecting themselves to foreign religions.

He described it as disheartening, a situation where a traditional ruler could not have at least one police.

“Politicians have destroyed the traditional institution. There is no adequate concern for the welfare of traditional rulers. Though many of our colleagues have deviated from the culture. They were not enthroned in the Mosque or Church and they turned themselves to religious leaders.

“I spent three months in the seclusion. Every day with different traditional rites and tutorials. Those that should be seen at night will come to me and those that should come during the day will come.

“Some things are happening to those monarchs that avoided seclusion rites that you don’t know. If you want to become king in Yorubaland, you must stay with the culture and preserve the tradition,” Oba Makama said.
