Delta: Foundation donates N8m, bags of rice, grinding machine to widows

A non – governmental organisation under the platform of Isioma Akamagwuna Foundation weekend empowered over 150 widows and vulnerable women with bags of rice, grinding machine and cash gifts of about N.8m in order to cushion the effects of hardship occasioned by subsidy removal.

Presenting the gifts to the beneficiaries at Ubulu- Uku in Aniocha South local government area of Delta state to mark International women’s day celebration, the founder of the organisation, Mrs Isioma Akamagwuna, said the foundation will continue to strive and push limit in helping people attain their potentials.

Mrs. Akamagwuna who was represented by the state coordinator, Mrs Faith Osadebe, said this year’s theme: ‘Invest in Women; Accelerate progress,’ reminded us of the indispensable role women play in advancing educational outcomes and in driving society progress.

The items presented to the beneficiaries include, bags of rice, grinding machine, bags of salts, tomatoes and cash gift worth over N800, 000.

She said, ” Our none profit and development organisation is assigned to create platforms for promoting acquisition of formal and informal education for children, youth and women. To defence of the rights of the vulnerable, rehabilitation of relevant institutions and other interventions towards the protection and restoration of the right and dignity of the target demography.

“The international women’s day serves as a reminder to all women that you can break barriers and accelerate equal opportunities for all women. It is the day our voices need to be heard, our journey in achieving this is to give focus to issues such as gender equality, reproductive right , violence and abuse against women.

“In essence, our collective endeavours to advance education must be guided by a commitment to equality and sustainability. By investing in woman’s education and empowerment, we not only amplified their voices, but also pave way to transformation change no our global scale.”

The guest speaker, Mrs Obianuju Olewike Usifoh, commended the foundation for providing for the vulnerable women and widows in the community at this time of hardship.

“The empowerment is general, but we have to group them accordingly, because everyone has different need. We have the widows, market women, business women, farmers and weavers. They were empowered according to their needs,” she said.
