Cup triumph: Dollars rain for victorious Kano Pillars as Ganduje rewards players

Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje of Kano State on Monday rewarded the State owned team Kano pillars after they successfully won 2019 FA Cup at the Ahamadu Bello Stadium in Kaduna.

Forty-one members of the team including coaches and technical adviser, each received the sum of $1,000 as a token reward for the sheer gallantry and valour they have exhibited, culminating in the scathing defeat of Niger Tonadoes in the cup final, bringing to lime-light the much-needed fame and honour to make Kano a bastion of excellence in the field of soccer.

Speaking at a colourful ceremony marking the monumental feat achieved by the much revered State owned team held at the Coronation Hall, Kano government house, Ganduje said he was short of words in expressing his appreciation to pillars for making Kano proud at the time when sports in the country and the world over has become a weapon of diplomacy and mutual understanding.

According to him, pillars being a great and formidable football club had inspired him to take measures in supporting them to attain the height of greatness, courtesy of its fighting spirit and its ability to weather the storm in the face of all odds.

He said the reward to each player, was an initial token, and that they would individually be rewarded during the forthcoming appreciation dinner.

He said his administration had created Sports and Culture Ministry with the aim of promoting sporting activities that would project an enviable image for the state in the international sporting arena.

The last time Kano Pillars FA Cup was in 1953.
