Centre LSD, ministry produce revised guidelines to boost solid minerals sector

African Centre for Leadership, Strategy & Development (Centre LSD) in collaboration with the Ministry of Solid Mineral Development (MSMD), Thursday, produced a revised guideline for the preparation of Community Development Agreements (CDA) advance the Solid Mineral Sector, however, attract investment to the nation.

Minister of Solid Minerals Development, Dele Alake said, the Communities are becoming more aware and vocal with regard to their socio-economic benefits. Adding that, the mining companies’ expectations for immediate and future benefits have increased.

“Also the mining companies are now more concerned about the need and means by which to obtain and sustain their social licenses to operate as well as for community support. Therefore, the Community Development Agreements (CDAs) are increasingly being used by mining companies as a means to better define their relationships and obligations with their host Communities. It readily provides a means of strengthening and advancing their relationship.

According to him, that the general visions of a CDA includes to improve the relationships between the Companies, their host Communities, the Governments, the civil societies and other stake holders, as well as promoting sustainable and mutually rewarding benefits from mining projects to the host communities.

Earlier, the Executive Director Centre LSD Mr. Monday Osasah said Centre LSD is specialised in training interested persons in the area of leadership development to capacitate the economy. “The Centre LSD, has an operating license of the Institute of Strategic Management of Nigeria and we are supporting aviation to develop strategic plan. Our operation worth, is what has brought us here today, which is in the area of governance and part of what we do is natural resource governance programming.
