A catholic priest Rev. Prof. Izu Marcell Onyeocha has been kidnapped along Enugu-Portharcourt highway in Imo state on Sunday morning.
The abducted priest who is a lecturer in the Faculty of Humanities at the Imo State University was stopped and picked up by gunmen in Ihube community in Okigwe local government area on his way to Owerri from Enugu, Blueprint reports.
Police authorities were yet to confirm the incident as at the time of filling this report.
In December 2020, gunmen struck in Owerri and kidnapped the Auxiliary Bishop of Owerri Catholic Archdiocese, Most Rev. Moses Chikwe.
There have been security issues within Imo state within in the past weeks which led to burning of Police command and Prison headquarters in Owerri.
The invasion by unknown gunmen also led to escape of almost 2000 inmates.
