The Borno State House of Assembly has resolved to eulogise the bravery and gallantry efforts of late Lt. Col Mohammed Abu Ali and some officers who were killed in the war front in northern Borno by suspected members of boko haram sect.
The House in ‘Notice of Motion’ for the day’s business as contained on the legislative order paper also passed a vote of confidence on the leadership of the Nigerian Army, under the Chief of Army Staff, Lt. General Tukur Buratai, and however resolved that a delegation to condole the Nigerian Army and Government and people of Kogi state be sent with immediate effect.
In an encounter last Friday in Mallam Fatori, the Headquarters of Abadam Local Government Area of northern Borno, six soldiers including a Seaman and 14 Boko Haram terrorists were killed alongside Lt. Col. Abu-Ali, Commanding Officer, 272 Task Force Battalion who was granted special promotion in 2014 for his gallantry in fight against Boko Haram.
The motion was sponsored by Hon. Mustapha Gadobe of Abadam constituency, who presented it on the floor of the house shortly after the adoption of the previous votes and proceedings.
Members unanimously passed a vote of confidence on the leadership of the security operatives, especially troops of the 7 Division, Nigerian Army under ‘Operation Lafiya Dole’ in the north east sub region.
The speaker, Right Hon. Abdulkarim Lawan, stated that the capturing of towns and villages, rescue of survivors in the captivity of insurgents, reopening of roads and schools leading to the reconstruction of destroyed towns and villages is a clear testimony of military’s sacrifices and comprehensive political will of the All Progressive Congress, APC led- government of President Muhammadu Buhari and Governor Kashim Shettima of the state.
His words; “We in Borno State have suffered untold hardship in the hands of dreaded Boko Haram sect since 2009 to date, but we have to give kudos to our gallant troops for liberating all our communities thereby restoring relative peace on our land.
“It was as a result of peace we now enjoy, that Governor Shettima last week facilitated the issuance of certificate of approval to establish Borno State University (BSU) by the Nigerian University Commission (NUC).”
