SWAN mourns Tijani Babangida’s brother, son, wants support for recuperating wife, others

The Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) has commiserated with former international Tijani Babaginda over the loss of his brother Ibrahim Babangida, an ex-junior international.

SWAN also condoled Tijani and his family over loss of his young son days after a fatal accident along Kaduna-Zaria highway.

SWAN President, Mr. Isaiah Benjamin, speaking through the Association’s Secretary-General Amb. Ikenna Okonkwo, on Monday said he has been sad since the news of unfortunate road crash got to him.

“Tijani Babaginda has always been a jolly good fellow. I remember his recent outing as chairman of a grassroots football competition in Kaduna. I’m still yet to come to terms with the accident which claimed the life of his brother Ibrahim who is also lively and enterprising.

“I urge Tijani and other family members to take heart. As Sports Journalists in Nigeria, we will continue to stand with you and your family at this time and always.

“It is our utmost prayer that you, your wife and any other affected by the incident be healed and recover as quickly as possible,” he said.

The SWAN President then urged the Kaduna State and Federal Government as well as spirited individuals to lend hand of support to Tijani (who has given so much to his dear country) and others who sustained injuries as a result of the accident.

Tijani, President of Professional Footballers Association of Nigeria, was notably part of the squad when Nigeria won football event at 1996 Olympics.
