President Muhammadu Buhari Thursday directed the armed forces to sustain the ongoing insurgency operations on the fringes of Lake Chad and the entire North East to eliminate Boko Haram insurgents.
The president gave the directive after a meeting with Governor Mai Mala Buni of Yobe state at the State House in Abuja.
He said there should be no complacency in the task of ensuring that the nation’s territory is no longer habitable for terrorists so that sustainable peace and development can be achieved.
He said this was necessary to ensure that farming and other socio-economic activities in the area are not disrupted, stressing that the health and well-being of the nation depends on its ability to feed itself through agricultural production.
The president called on Governor Buni to continue to mobilise community support for the military operations, saying intelligence-sharing and synergy between law enforcement agencies and the civil populace are critical towards achieving peace and development.
In his remarks, Governor Mai Mala Buni commended the federal government for the proactive measures being employed in the renewed onslaught against the Boko Haram terrorists.
He said significant achievements have been recorded by the military in dealing with the insurgents and criminal elements now in disarray after the recent operations by the Chadian military.He said if the current tempo is maintained, Boko Haram would soon become history.
