A female student of the Benue state University, Makurdi, was Monday shot dead by yet to be identified gunmen at her residence, Gyado villa, located near the school campus.
The student, identified as Jessica Agee was said to be a student of the Department of Anatomy, College of Health Science, University Makurdi.
Though the reason behind the killing remains unknown, allegations are that it may not be unconnected with the shooting earlier in the school at the Facility of Law Building where the students of the Mass Communication Department had written their examination.
Blueprint learnt that the late Jessica was said to have met her untimely death after some suspected cultists who were allegedly gunning for her boyfriend broke into her house and shot her. She died on the spot.
A source who spoke on condition of anonymity said her boyfriend who was a wanted member of rival confraternity, had vacated his own lodge after numerous threats from rival groups, and was hiding in Jessica’s lodge until his last paper in his final exam in the institution. But rival cultists went on a manhunt for him.
The clash reportedly had earlier claimed the lives of no fewer than four persons.
It was further learnt that the school authority had Tuesday shut all entries into the school, except the main campus gate.
At the time of filing this report, there was still panic in some quarters, over a possible reprisal from rival cult groups.
The Public relation officer of the university, Mr Tser Vanger, who confirmed the incidence, said the school is investigating the incident.
