Be agents of peace, Kukah centre, HJDP tell Kaduna women

Kukah Centre in collaboration with the Provincial Secretariat of Church and Society (HJDP) has tasked women in Kaduna state both Christians and Muslims to be agents of peace building.

Programme officer for Kukah Centre, Rev. Fr. Onuh Ladi Sixtus, made the call during a one-day roundtable discussion on “The Role of Women in Peace Building Efforts in Kaduna.”

He emphasised the need on living together.

Sixtus who also works with HJDP urged residents of the state to end hypocrisy about peace building in Kaduna.

“Let’s end hypocrisy about peace building in Kaduna, if we keep away our bias and sentiments and be deliberate about peace building, we can make a headway.

“We want women to take up the role, see themselves as critical stakeholders and play an active role in bringing lasting peace in Kaduna and ending conflict,” Fr Sixtus stated.

The founder of Ladies Empowerment Goals and Support Initiative, Kaltume Abdulazeez, said women are custodian of the culture, adding that it is important for them to take up those roles by instilling the morals and give children proper parenting as well as teach them what peace building entails.

“This will go a long way in peace building,” she said.

“We are building the capacity of women to be able to take those roles of decision-making and to impact the lives of the people to be able to avert indicators to stop conflict from escalating to community level”.

Earlier, DSP David Dominic of the gender and family support unit, Kaduna police command, urged women to be peace ambassadors in order to ensure a peaceful atmosphere in the state.
