Bayelsa: CSO wants Oshiohmole, Lyon arrested for instigating militancy, violence

The Coalition of Civil Society Groups for Democracy has charged the Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Adamu to arrest the National Chairman of the All Progressive Congress (APC), Adams Oshiohmole and the party governorship candidate in Bayelsa state, David Lyon for allegedly instigating violence and militancy.

The Chairman and Convener of the groups, Conscious Richard, who brief journalists in Abuja, Wednesday, also commended the Supreme Court justices for “remaining resolute and uncompromising in their patriotic drive to bring sanity, dignity and order into the political firmament of the nation”.

He expressed fear that “the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, Mr Adams Oshiohmole has been going about making careless, unpatriotic, unguided and intimidating remarks and comments on the judgement. We are worried also that his actions and that of the APC Political party suggests attempt to intimidate, coarse and compromise the supreme justices which portend huge danger for the nation and the survival of our democratic experience.

Richard continue “Apart from this highly indicting, instigating and anti-democratic tendency, we are aware that the statement of Mr Oshiohmole and behind the scene statements, plans and actions are capable of threatening our democracy and instigate crisis in Bayelsa, a very important revenue generating state.

“We also have it on high authority that Mr Oshiohmole has emboldened APC Candidate Mr Lyon to apply all undemocratic means to make sure Bayelsa is in crisis, after all he told the whole Nigerians prior to INEC’s declaration that no one would be sworn in in Bayelsa, a statement that instigated violence in Bayelsa that led to destruction of government facilities and even attack on the PDP supporters which is capable of causing reprisal attacks”.

The convener of the group who also fingered Oshiohmole as sponsor of protest at the private residence of Supreme Court justice Mary Odili added that “We are seriously worried that the same Adams Oshiohmole who benefited from a judgement of the Supreme court to become Governor of Edo state is the one instigating crisis today.

“In view of the implications of all of these activities, we therefore as Civil Society Groups for Democracy demand the following. Call on the Inspector General of Police to immediately arrest of Mr Adams Oshiohmole, APC National Chairman for attempt to compromise, intimidate and coarse the Independent National Electoral Commission and Supreme court  and also instigating violence in Bayelsa and Nigeria, Richard added.

He also called for “Immediate arrest of Mr David Lion, APC gubernatorial Candidate for instigating militancy and violence in Bayelsa State.

“That Supreme Court has given his final verdict and caution against any demand for the court to review itself as it will spell doom on our judiciary by the time every dissatisfied litigant seek review of judgement of the apex court. We demand that Nigeria judiciary remain with its decision whenever pronouncement is made in order to safeguard the sanctity of the Supreme Court as also expressed below”.
