The caretaker committee chairman of Dass local government area in Bauchi state, Comrade Mohammed Jibo, Sunday inaugurated new market with N50 million as empowerment grant to individuals and groups.
Speaking at the occasion, Jibo expressed gratitude to Governor Mohammed Bala for granting local government areas in the state their autonom.
He said autonomy has placed Bauchi state among the few local governments in Nigeria that operates independently without any interference for execution of developmental projects.
He believed that the new market and the empowerment grant distributed would go a long way towards boosting economic activity in the local government in addition to minimising the level of poverty among the beneficiaries of the grant.
“We thank the Almighty Allah for giving us the opportunity to serve our people. We also thank His Excellency, the Executive Governor of Bauchi state, Senator Abdulkadir Mohammed (Wazirin Dass), for making it possible for us to serve our people well through the realisation of the local government autonomy in the state.
“Today’s occasion is timely, considering the economic hardship being experienced not only in the local government but also the whole state and Nigeria in general.”
He recalled that the local government under his leadership has initiated and implemented various programmes in the sectors of health, education, agriculture and water among others which are beneficial to the people and promised to do more for the interest of his people.
“Let me use this medium to acknowledge the total support and guidance we are receiving from his royal highness the Emir of Dass, Dr. Usman Bilyaminu Othman. Sir, your contributions in the implementation of all the developmental programmes to our people across the local government is highly appreciated. We also thank our father, the Hon. Commissioner in person of Alhaji Ahmed Sarki Jalam, for his support.
“To the people of Dass, I have no word to express our gratitude to you for the support and care you show to us. We only pray to Allah to continue to grant us good health and opportunity to serve you better.”
