Barcelona hint on Messi return

Barcelona vice-president Eduard Romeu says the club will give Lionel Messi a real tribute, but refused to speculate on a possible return to the team.

Messi has been linked with a move back to Barcelona ever since he first left to join Paris Saint-Germain in 2021. However, the Argentina hero opted to join Inter Miami in the summer instead of returning to his former team.

With the MLS season set to finish at the end of the year, the prospect of Messi going back to Barca on loan has emerged again, especially as Inter Miami have been ruled out of competing in the MLS playoffs once the regular campaign is over. However, the move has been deemed impossible due to Barcelona’s continued financial woes.

The seven-time Ballon d’Or winner will, at least, likely be given a tribute in front of the Barcelona fans once Camp Nou is open again and Romeu is confident it will happen.

Messi may be involved for Argentina when they take on Paraguay and Peru in World Cup qualifying over the next week.
