Bamidele warns new Ekiti LG chairmen against pride, corruption

Senator representing Ekiti Central Senatorial District in the National Assembly, Opeyemi Bamidele, advised the newly elected council officials on the dangers of pride and corrupt practices.


Bamidele who urged the local government political dictionaries  to prioritise development of their councils and refrain from corrupt practices said such negative tendencies  could dash the people’s hope for good governance.


The Senator who is the Chairman Senate Committee on Judiciary and Human Right said the council bosses must consolidate on the gains of the  overwhelming victories recorded by the All Progressives Congress ahead of 2022 governorship poll, by running an open door policy that would  garner more supports for APC at the grassroots.


Bamidele, in his congratulatory message to the 16 Chairmen and 177 councilors elected during the December 7 local government poll on Monday , advised that the council bosses must exhibit selflessness and make sacrifices for the task of reducing poverty at the council level achievable.


The Senator said part of what accounted for the mutual distrust and suspicion between the leaders and the led has been the issue of arrogance of power, urging them to be submissive and grow the right temperament to be able to operate at the grassroots.


“As I join your supporters and our party, the APC, in congratulating you on these resounding victories, I want to also call your attentions to that unassailable fact that a lot needed to be done to give our people at the grassroots the desired democracy dividends. With this glaring fact, so much are expected from you.


“Fighting poverty in a developing nation, especially in an  economically deprived state like Ekiti has been a daunting task. In achieving such an uphill task,  drivers of the economy must be strong and committed team players and should make the required sacrifices for our people to savour the gains of good leadership.”


The federal parliamentarian charged them to key into the development agenda of Governor Kayode Fayemi, to fortify  the existing  synergy between the state and local governments. 


 He urged the incoming council bosses to live by that emblems and brands  for which the progressives are reputed , “which were honesty, transparency and accountability in governance”, he advised.
