APC debunks link to death of two in Delta

The All Progressive Congress (APC) Delta state chapter has dismissed allegations linking it to the death of two persons during the presidential and National Assembly elections in Sapele.

In a press release made available to newsmen on Sunday,

The party in a statement Sunday described the allegation as part of the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) plot to cover up their involvement in the killings.

The party therefore called on security operatives to investigate the matter, adding the attack was plotted to rig the elections in ward 9, which has always been an APC stronghold.

The release, which was signed by the party’s chairman, Comrade Friday Erubasa, further also called on security agencies to ignore allegations by the PDP that the attack was carried out by one of APC chieftains, whose house was burnt down after the onslaught.

During the February 23 elections some political thugs had allegedly opened fire on voters at Ward 9, Unit 15 in Amukpe area of Sapele, which subsequently led to the death of two persons who made attempt to snatch ballot boxes.

It identified the deceased as Michael Chibueze and Jeffrey Otevane, but said their presence at the polling unit was questionable, more so since they were not registered voters of the unit.

Further, the APC alleged that they were PDP members who were recruited as mercenaries by the council chairman, Chief Eugene Inoaghan and one Hero Asagba, a special adviser to governor of Delta state Ifeanyi Okowa.

It also expressed shock that both were alleged to be ad-hoc staff of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), despite the fact the INEC has yet to report loss of any official.
