Anambra @28: NUJ urges collaborative efforts to curb erosion, power crisis

As Anambra state mark 28-year anniversary of her creation on August 27, the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Anambra state council has urged collaborative effort with the state government and the residents towards curbing erosion menace and power challenges in the state.

The state council Chairman, Comrade Emma Ifesinachi, and his Secretary, Comrade Emma Udeagha, made the call in a release they co-signed and issued out on Monday. According to them, erosion and power supply have proven to be the greatest constraints to “full manifestation of the ingenuity of our people.”

According to the NUJ, “The State Working Committee (SWC) and the entire members of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, Anambra State Council, hereby felicitate with the Government and people of Anambra State on the occasion of the 28th Anniversary of the Creation of the State..

“We wish to acknowledge the contributions of the founding fathers, former Governors, Political office holders of the State and indeed all Anambra indigenes to this epoch. We applaud the Obiano Administration for consolidating the foundations laid by his predecessors and for his giant strides especially in the areas of Education, security of life and property and prompt payment of workers salaries and pensions.

“The Governor’s ‘Community Choose Your Project Initiative’, now in the second stage, whereby every Community in the State was given 20 million naira to execute a project of their choice is legendary, but there is need for greater transparency in its implementation in keeping with perceived good intentions of the scheme.”

The union also commended the state government for digitalising and equipping the state-owned radio station, as well as for approving payment of Pension and Gratuities to retired staff of both the state radio and television, and newspaper outfits.

The union further pledged to continue to support what it termed every genuine effort for good governance in the spirit of the mutually beneficial Government/Media partnership.

Blueprint recalls that the military-led federal government, on January 27, 1991, carved out the present Anambra state from the old state which before then, comprised the present Enugu, Anambra and Ebonyi states.
