Anambra monarch gives August as deadline to drug abuse

The traditional ruler of Aguleri, Anambra East LGA, Eze Dr Michael Idigo, has expressed dismay over the risen cases of drug abuse and cultism among youths in the country.

Idigo, who stated this in Awka, while commending governor Wilie Obiano on his giant strides in the war against drug abuse and cultism, said that from August ending, anyone caught abusing drugs in his community would be made to face the full wrath of law.

The traditional ruler enjoined his subjects to report any one caught in the act to National Drug Law Enforcement Agents (NDLEA), Police and other law enforcement agencies for prompt response.

Describing drug abuse, cultism and consumption of other substances as a general problem which requires urgent action by all as a result of their health hazards, Aguleri monarch advised youths to refrain from the act as they were against the laws of the land as well.

He regretted that despite organizing seminars and public enlightenment campaigns aimed at exposing the ills of drug abuse that some pharmacists and patent medicine dealers still market tramadol and other drugs harmful to health.

He, however, enjoined the state and federal government to create more employment opportunities for the youth in all strata of the economy as according to him, job creation would go a long way to addressing the cultism and drug abuse in the country.
