An appeal to Gov Bello Matawalle

I wish to write as a concerned indigene of Zamfara North Senatorial District, Zamfara state to passionately appeal to your excellency, to allow for the establishment of a new Federal Science and Technical College in Zamfara North as proposed by the Federal Ministry of Education.

Your Excellency Sir, you may wish to recall that Zamfara state has a total of four federal secondary schools and colleges in Zamfara state. They are Federal Government Girls College (FGGC), Gusau (Zamfara Central), Federal Government College (FGC) Anka (Zamfara West), Command Secondary Schools Gusau (Zamfara Central) and Command Secondary School Talata-Mafara (Zamfara West), out of which none is located in Zamfara North.

It may be on this ground that the Federal Ministry of Education graciously considered Zamfara North for the establishment of the new federal college to balance the equation and to give fair treatment to the three senatorial zones in the state.

Meanwhile, even by looking at the distribution of state-owned tertiary institutions in the state, one can see that Zamfara North has been unfairly treated by successive governments. Out of seven tertiary institutions owned by the state, none is situated in Zamfara North.

Sir, you may also recall that Zamfara state has10 tertiary institutions (federal and state combined), out of which six are in Zamfara Central; three in Zamfara West; while only one is located at Zamfara North – Federal Polytechnic Kaura Namoda.

And, I believe, even the general analysis of state owned public secondary schools may show the uneven distribution to the disadvantage of our dear zone, which by implication, is dragging us backward in terms of access to (quality) education and development generally.

Going by this, I think it was legitimate for your children and subjects from the zone in question to demand fair treatment. I believe Zamfara North deserves better treatment because what is good for the goose is also good for the gander!

Your Excellency Sir, it was against this background and having noted the recent developments in connection with the above subject matter that I appeal to your good offices to kindly demonstrate justice and fairness which you are known for, by rescinding the move by your Commissioner of Education to DIVERT what is meant for Zamfara North to your beloved local government of origin, Maradun—Zamfara West.

I believe your Excellency would not allow your government to be like a bucket that withholds the water given by a well, and allow history to remember your government for taking some parts of the state for granted. God forbid!

At this juncture, I would like to appreciate the commitment of your administration towards establishing a School of Nursing and Midwifery in Zurmi local government area. This shows your concern and commitment to balance the scale of lopsided distribution of educational institutions across the three senatorial zones in the state.

I do hope Your Excellency will kindly listen and consider this appeal out of your unique leadership quality of listening to your subjects regardless of their status which even your political opponents have acknowledged and admired.

Please accept my esteemed regards.

Suleman Ahmad Tudu,
(Concerned indigene of Zamfara North.)
