Alkali, monumental loss to Gombe, Nigeria – Gombe gov

Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya of Gombe state has described the death of Dr Saidu Abubakar Alkali as a monumental loss to the state and Nigeria.

The governor said “the late CMD was a hardworking and core- professional physician and consultant with pedigree, selfless service and sacrifice.”

A press statement issued by the senior special assistant to the governor, Malam Misili quoted the governor as saying the late Dr. Alkali worked tirelessly to initiate reforms and improvement in the services and operations of the Federal Teaching Hospital Gombe in particular, the medical profession and the health sector in general.

 “We have indeed lost a great man, seasoned medical practitioner and administrator per excellence.

 “On behalf of the government and people of Gombe state, I wish to extend our heartfelt condolences to the deceased’s immediate family, Nigerian Medical Association and the entire management and staff of the Federal Teaching Hospital Gombe for this huge loss. May Allah forgive his sins and grant him Aljannat Firdaus”.

The late Dr. Alkali was born in Dukku, Dukku local government area of Gombe state on April 7, 1963. 

He graduated from the University of Jos in 1981, where he obtained a Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) in 1987.

He did his horsemanship at the Bauchi Specialist Hospital, Bauchi state between 1987 and 1988 and started his working career as Medical Officer II with the Hospitals Management Board, Bauchi in 1989.

 He joined the then Federal Medical Centre (FMC) Gombe in 1998 as a resident doctor in 1998, rose through the ranks and attained the position of consultant paediatrician in 2008. He was also a visiting consultant paediatrician to Gombe State Specialist Hospital since 2015 and appointed as Chief Medical Director (CMD) Federal Teaching Hospital, Gombe on October 15, 2019.
