Governor Umaru Tanko AlMakura of Nasarawa state has approved the sum of N200 million for the payment of gratuities to local government pensioners. Director-General of the state pension bureau, Alhaji Sani Oseze, disclosed this to newsmen yesterday in Lafia. He said local government’s civil servants, who retired before April 2011, were eligible for the payment, explaining that the beneficiaries would be those retirees who did not enjoy the minimum wage as implemented by the AlMakura-led administration. Oseze said there were retirees, who have not been paid their gratuities for over 25 years and that what Governor Al-Makura “wants to do is to clear the backlog of gratuities before the inception of his administration in 2011.” According to him, the bureau has compiled the names and that modalities are being put in place to commence the payment soon.
