The Minister of Special Duties and Intergovernmental Affairs, Senator George Akume, has charged civil servants to imbibe the traditional values of the “Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) developed by the ministry to serve as a guide for work processes of staff in the various developments.
The minister stated this at the official presentation ceremony of the Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) Manual, presented to him by the Permanent Secretary of the ministry, Mrs. Ibiene Roberts on Monday.
Akume said he is aware of the efforts made by the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Dr. Folashade Yemi-Esan in changing the narratives of the work culture of the federal civil service.
The minister further explained that, the transformative initiatives of this present administration are crucial to ameliorate the challenges faced by civil servants in the discharge of their duties.
He added that he is happy to be associated with the commendable venture by the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation (HCSF), stressing that Enterprise Content Management (ECM) project of the federal civil strategy and implementation plan (FCSSIP 2017 – 2021) would impact greatly on the management and staff of the ministry as well as the federal civil service as a whole.
Akume said his ministry was created to serve as strategic tool for grassroots development, effective implementation and monitoring of government policies and programmes for national development.
The minister encouraged all to follow due diligence in all work processes to ensure proper conduct of government businesses within their purview.
He harped on the need for civil servant to adhere to policies and initiatives of the federal government while discharging their duties in order to promote quality job delivery in line with the efficient, productive, incorruptible and citizen-centred culture initiative of the civil service.
Akume assured them of the efforts of the federal government towards alleviating the challenges faced by civil servants and enjoined all hands to be on the deck to ensure better work environment and welfare of staff.
Earlier in her key note address, the permanent secretary in the ministry, Mrs. Ibiene Roberts, said the presentation of Standard Operating Procedures was in line with the directive of the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation to Ministries, Departments and Agencies.
