Aisha Buhari donates hygiene packs to pregnant women in Nasarawa

Nigeria’s first lady Hajiya Aisha Muhammadu Buhari, Friday, distributed hygiene packages to over 500 nursing mothers and pregnant women in Nasarawa state.

During the distribution of the items in Lafia and Doma local government areas of the state, Hajiya Aisha Buhari, said the gesture was in furtherance of the objective of her Non Governmental Organisation (NGO), Future Assured.

The first lady who spoke through the special assistant to the President on domestic affairs and event management Zainab Kassim said the hygiene kits donated were made up of tolatories, baby creams, mouth washing chemicals and detergents which is expected to improve hygiene among pregnant women and nursing mothers in the state.

Aisha Buhari said she would continue to play active role in uplifting the standard of living of the less privileged in the country through Future Assured project.

According to her, efforts are ongoing among government and non governmental organisations, one of such is using Future Assured to improve access to good hygiene in affordable ways among women.

She further said the gesture was part of steps towards cushioning the effects of the Coronavirus pandemic which according to her is still taking its toll on many families, especially women and children.

Wife of the Nasarawa state governor Hajiya Silifat Abdullahi Sule who was represented by wife of deputy governor Mrs. Tosin Akabe thanked the First lady for her commitment towards healthcare, and well being of Nigerian women.

Executive secretary, Nasarawa state Primary health care development agency, Dr Muhammad Adis, who took the team round some primary heath care centres in Lafia and Doma local government areas of the state described the gesture as a major move towards improving maternal and child health care delivery in the state.

Dr. Adis called on the beneficiares to ensure judicious use of the items for the purpose they were meant for.

Some of the beneficiaries, Mrs Ladi Usman, and Mrs Hadiza Salihu thanked Aisha Buhari for the donation.

They also stressed the need for government and development partners to pay more attention to primary health care centres especially in the rural areas for optimal service.
