AFCON 2023 highest goalscorer incurs suspension

The Equatorial Guinea Football Federation excludes Emilio Nsue from the national team along with Edu Salvador.

This decision follows several episodes of serious indiscipline and an unpleasant incident during the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), where Ivory Coast won the title.

Emilio Nsué, despite his brilliant performance as the AFCON’s top scorer with five goals, is suspended due to undisciplined behavior before and after the national team’s participation in the competition.

Edu Salvador is sanctioned for his involvement in an incident that occurred on January 29 in Abidjan, which required the intervention of the local police. This incident caused a notable delay in the team’s return to Equatorial Guinea, leading to a downgrade in the reputation of the national team and the country.

The Equatorial Guinean Football Federation, through a press release, stressed the need to maintain discipline within the national team and preserve the positive image of Equatorial Guinea in the world of African football.
