Adopt Zamfara model to end banditry, other insecurity threats – Matawalle tells govs

Zamfara state Governor Muhammad Bello Matawalle has urged all state governors, especially those facing challenges of banditry, kidnappings and other security threats to dioloque with bandits and other criminals so as to end insecurity in the country.

The governor stated this in an interview with Journalists in Yola at the end of his two days working visit to Adamawa state where he also commissioned over 340 kilometers of rural roads in kuva Gaya, Hong local government area of the state.
He insisted that dialogue measures remained the best and the only option out of the current security challenges bedevilling the country.

He further explained that when he came on board as Zamfara state governor many people were kidnapped by bandits and some were in their hands for six to seven months and in some instances one year, two months but through dialogue and reconciliation, he was able to secure the release of many of them.

According to him, “dialoquing with bandits does not mean that government will not go after those who refused to repent but it simply means working with those who repent and going after those who refused to repent.
“We are not saying we are not going to fight those who refused to repent, no. We are using two options. We are applying these two options in Zamfara state. Those that have agreed to dialoque, we will work with them and we are fighting those that refused to dialoque. This is not new to the world, that is what many countries practiced. I challenge anyone to come out with any other solution,” he said.
