Abuja bubbles as FCT school sports returns, nearly 25 years after

The rejuvenated FCT School Sports Festival, is underway in Abuja, with all registered public and private schools, in the nation’s capital, competing in the zonal preliminaries, for places in the finalé.

To this effect, the organisers of the fiesta says, the preliminaries are being held at eight designated centers, to ensure that the students, pupils and their games officials do not travel long distances.

The preliminaries are holding across the three categories – Primary, Junior Secondary, and Senior Secondary Schools; with the best two in each event, qualifying for the finalé.

To this end, a first hand inspection of the venues and infrastructures, at the host schools, were certified by the organizing committee; before the following schools were listed as hosts of the multi-sport fiesta.

The approved venues:

Abaji Centre – Govt Science Technical College, Abaji.

Kwali Centre – Govt. Secondary School, Kwali.

Kuje Centre – Govt. Secondary School, Kuje.

Gwagwalada Centre – Govt. Secondary School, G/lada.

Dutse Center -Govt. Day Secondary School, Dutse-Alhaji.

Tudun Wada Centre – Govt. Secondary School, Tudun Wada.

Karshi Center – Govt. Secondary School, Karshi.

Tungan Maje Center – Govt. Secondary School, Tungan Maje.

Deputy Director incharge of the FCT Secondary Schools Sports Department, Mr. Jimoh Eneye Abasi, also asserted that adequate arrangements have been made, to secure the venues, with a view to forestall any security breach.

Similarly, medical posts to be manned by paramedics, have been put in place, and at least one Ambulance will be centered at each of the centers, to provide timely medical interventions, if need be.

The Zonal Preliminaries, across all three categories, are billed to end on March 2, 2024; and a break will be observed from March 4-9, before the finalé scheduled for March 11th-14th holds at the Main Bowl of the MKO Abiola National Stadium, Abuja, and its adjoining facilities.
