Abdulsalam urges youths to shun violence during elections

The Chairman of the National Peace Committee General Abdussalami Abubakar (rtd) has urged youths across the country to shun violence during the forthcoming 9th March 2019 governorship and state Houses of Assembly elections.

Gen Abdussalami who was represented by the Head of Secretariat of the National Peace Committee, Reverend Father Atta Barkindo  made the call on Wednesday in Gombe during a high level dialogue on peaceful 2019 gubernatorial and State House of Assembly elections held at Federal College of Education

The General Abdussalami said Nigeria needs politicians who will not only think about the next elections, but those who can think about the next generation.

He said Gombe was selected to host the event because it is one of the critical state in the North-east considering the incidence of violence witnessed last Saturday in Gombe metropolis.

Also Speaking at the occasion, the Gombe state Resident   Electoral Commissioner Ibrahim Umar represented by Abacha Bukar Dikwa said Nigeria  cannot move further without peace, adding that elections will come and go but Gombe state will remain.

On his part, the Gombe state police Commissioner, CP Bello Makwashi who was represented by  DCP Haruna said the police are in the same page with the NPC to  ensure peace before, during and after the polls.

The Police commissioner added that Police is in Synergy with other security agencies towards ensuring a peaceful election to also create conducive environment for the electoral process.
