A soldier and a policeman were among about 33 persons killed Sunday night by suspected Fulani militia in a new attack on a village in Riyom local government area of Plateau state, on the boundary with the troubled Southern Kaduna area of Kaduna state.
The militia, according to online newspaper SaharaReporters, launched the simultaneous attacks on Attakad ethnic groups located in Rajak and Attakar villages of Plateau state.
A member representing the area in Plateau State House of Assembly, Hon. Daniel Dem, confirmed this to newsmen.
The lawmaker added that the two security personnel killed were members of Special Task Force (STF) a military arm overseen security situation in Plateau State. And burnt down the invaded villages aside injuring scores, he also insisted that there is need for Federal Government to deployed more troops and commence air patrols across the areas.
Another source said the militia killed six persons in Krim, Mayit 22 and five persons in Danti all of Riyom local government. The source added that none of the invaders was arrested.
Another military source stated that the attack on Zangan in Kaduna state was fiercely resisted by security agents that forced the attackers to retreat, saying, “That’s what saved the Zangan village but they killed one person and burnt down over 20 houses.”
As of the time of this report, Plateau State Police Command had confirmed the attacks, but said it has not actual figures of casualties.
