3-hour downpour kills Imam, 2 others in Gombe

A three-hour downpour has killed the second Imam of Al-Burhan Masjid Mosque, Gombe, Malam Muhammad Musa Bello, and two others shortly after he led Muslim faithful for a Taraweeh prayer at the mosque.
Bello was drowned in the rain while trying to save his sister-inlaw’s car from being submerged by flood.
According to witnesses, his lifeless body was found underneath a bridge at Kumbiya-Kumbiya area, after three hours of searching.
The late Monday evening downpour that wreaked havoc for three hours also claimed the lives of two other persons, injured many and destroyed over 100 houses.
Our correspondent, who visited the affected areas yesterday, reports that apart from the three confirmed deaths, many people are feared missing.
The Head of Rescue and Rehabilitation of the Gombe State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), Malam Muhammad Garba, confirmed the incident.
He said apart from residential buildings, households items and properties, several livestock were also consumed by the flood disaster.
Garba said the agency was still accessing the level of damages, to ascertain the number of death, households items affected and property destroyed by the flood.
