2023: INEC clears Imo Speaker, deputy, NUJ chair

Speaker of Imo State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Kennedy Ibeh, representing Obowo State constituency has been cleared by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to run for the 2023 State House of Assembly election in Imo State.

With this development, Ibeh will be contesting for a seat in the State House of Assembly for the third term, having successfully represented his constituency for the second time which will end in 2023.

Other candidates whose names were published on the INEC notice board to run for the election include the deputy speaker, Hon. Amarachi Chyna Iwuanyanwu, representing Nwangele State constituency and who will be aiming for his second term in the Assembly;  the Chairman, Caretaker Committee of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Imo State chapter, Comrade Precious Nwadike, who will be aiming to represent Orlu State constituency for the first time.

It is worthy to note that Comrade Nwadike was in the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) some months ago, but had to move into Labour Party when he discovered that the main opposition party had concluded plans to give return/automatic tickets to seven members of the Imo State House of Assembly who were being sidelined by the All Progressives Congress (APC) leadership in the House because of their opposition stance.

Incumbent lawmakers like Chigozie Nwaneri, Okey Onyekanma, Paschal Okolie, Anayo Onyemaechi, etc were also cleared by the electoral body.
