2023: I’m under pressure to contest Nasarawa West – Magaji

A federal prosecutor in the office of the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Barrister Labaran Shehu Magaji, has said he is under intense pressure from his people to contest for the Nasarawa West senatorial seat during the 2023 general election.

Magaji while speaking to Blueprint in Abuja weekend said many individuals and groups across Toto local government area of Nasarawa state have been mounting pressure on him to declare his intention to contest for the Senate seat.

He said though he was yet to heed the call of his people, he was making consultations with stakeholders across the local government and people of Nasarawa West senatorial zone on the aspiration.

He said Toto local government area has had no representation at the federal level since the inception of the nascent democracy in 1999, stressing that only people from Kokona, Karu and Keffi local government areas have been enjoying the Senate slot.

Magaji pointed out that “if Senator Abdullahi Adamu, who currently represents Nasarawa West senatorial district is not re-contesting, I believe in the interest of equity and fairness, Toto local government should be able to produce the next senator that will represent Nasarawa West in 2023.”

He said he will officially declare his intention as soon as he completes his consultations, noting that his consultations needed to be wide and exhaustive.
